Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA)

LCA of Products, Services and Processes

Finding a balance between economic development and respect for the planet is the way forward for the businesses of today and tomorrow! With Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of products and services, you can implement your Sustainability Strategy and make your business more responsible, ethical, sustainable and competitive!

Sustainability, today's challenge

The United Nations 2030 Agenda, adopted by world leaders in 2015, constitutes the new framework for global sustainable development and establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDGs aim at a balance between the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, the social and the environmental. They provide concrete goals for the next 15 years, focused, among other things, on building a healthy planet. The objectives have been declined at the European level, representing an important indication for the member states.

What is a LCA?

Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an objective method of assessing and quantifying the energy and environmental burdens and potential impacts associated with a product/service, process or activity throughout its life cycle, from raw material acquisition to end-of-life ("cradle to grave").

Developing an LCA means analysing all inputs to processes in detail and assigning an environmental load to them so that the most critical stages can be recognised and targeted environmental improvements can be worked on. Life cycle analysis is a conscious, responsible and concrete commitment to a path of sustainability.

What is the purpose of the LCA?

  • To implement and communicate sustainability

LCA is one of the fundamental tools for the implementation of an Integrated Product Policy, as well as the main operational tool of Life Cycle Thinking.

Life Cycle Assessment is an objective indicator of a company's sustainability.

  • Obtaining Environmental Labels

The LCA is functional to obtain Type III Ecological Quality Labels such as the Carbon Footprint CFP (ISO 14067), the Environmental Product Declaration EPD, the Product Environmental Footprint PEF.

These labels communicate objectively the environmental and sustainability performance of a product or service and, therefore, represent an added value on the market.

  • Access to "Green Procurement"

The Ministry of Ecological Transition within Green Procurement has established CAM Minimum Environmental Criteria (L 221/2015) defined by the Plan for the Environmental Sustainability of Consumption in the Public Administration sector, aimed at identifying the best design solution, product or service from an environmental point of view along the life cycle.

The LCA is a strategic tool, explicitly identified by CAM, to guide purchasing and procurement.
